The Annachich Name

We know it looks like "chic" but that's just a happy coincidence. Annachich is our founder's maternal grandmother's maiden name.

All of the letters are pronounced just like they appear: Ann-a-chich.

Why did Becky choose her grandmother's maiden name?

"As a little girl, I’d watch my grandmother crochet delicate doll dresses for hours. Needle never slowing down, she’d feed my own imagination with fantastic, romantic stories. Some imagined, some real. Including the story of her maiden name. The family was pressured to change their Eastern European name from Annachich to Annick at the immigrant gates of the U.S. To fit in. To blend.

My grandmother was a beautiful woman, a strong woman who lived through a husband at war and the lean cupboards of a foreigner making a simple, livable life in America. Her heart—which could have broken a hundred times—always seemed at peace, content. Especially when making doll dresses.
